6 Steps to Look & Feel Your Best at Special Events and Life Milestones

As we age, milestone events come at a faster rate. It can seem like we’re celebrating a “big” birthday sooner than later. We find ourselves commemorating different types of “anniversaries” from love and commitment to work and achievements. In the recent picture above, I’m celebrating my 13th anniversary with my love.

Then, faster than you can find out what “adulting” means, it’s time for the class reunion!

Whether you’re attending a dear friends wedding or planning a once in a lifetime vacation, here are mindful and holistic steps to look and feel your best.

1. “Feel your feelings” about the impending event.

  • Do you have any apprehension or anxiety about it?
  • What are your worries if any?
  • What does the event mean to you?
  • Do you have a positive or negative feeling about the event?

Life milestones have a way of bringing to light our deepest worries and fears.

Take note of these different thoughts and feelings. Reason what you can and heal what you are able to. In this way your “feelings” are felt, you address them as best you can, and hopefully you get more freedom, peace, and happiness by dealing with them instead of brushing them off. Ignoring your feelings only leads to regret and unhealed wounds.

2. Mentally prepare for the event.

Create a positive mindset so you can enjoy yourself. 

  • What do you want to happen at the event? 

Get clear, then see it in your mind’s eye, and envision the day as you would hope it would be.

  • Who do you want to see?

Freely imagine the interesting conversations and interactions with those people. See yourself having fun with them!

  • How do you want to feel?

Visualize yourself in a great mood and stir these feelings within already. Feeling happy before the event will help assure a pleasant evening.

Attitude is everything when you’re trying to have a good time.

3. Plan as best you can.

A clear yet general idea of what you want will be easier to accomplish and relish.

Think of this as “Goldilocks” planning. Not too much, not too little, but just right.

Wisdom tells us that too much planning can be stressful. When we try to control every detail of an event or occasion it almost always leads to headache and frustration. On the other hand, not enough planning can bring about other stresses such as the unease of “not knowing” and disappointment.

To find that middle ground—the “just right” feeling—your expectations of the event have to be more about what you want to “feel” rather than see. With that said, once you’ve gotten the “feeling” you want, you generally like what you see.

4. Get in better physical shape for the event — if you like.

Feeling good about your health and physical appearance is a healthy aspiration. After all, we should care for the temple that houses our soul.

With my clients, I promote an individualized and intuitive-eating and ageless-living lifestyle and not any crash course diet or generalized fitness plan.

In any case, if you’re motivated to make a few lifestyle changes for an event—go for it. Perhaps you may like the results so much that you will adopt a healthier lifestyle.

If you’re healthy and have no medical conditions that can worsen if you alter your diet, then you may want to do the following to look and feel your best.

  • 2 weeks out – cut out all processed food
  • 7 days out – cut out all sugar and fruit
  • 3 days out – cut out “added” salt and other sodium laden foods

Throughout the 2 weeks eat normally—with healthy-size portions—just remove the processed foods and such from your diet. You can work out as you usually would or increase it by a tad. Don’t overdo your workouts because if you’re not use to doing a lot, you can risk injury.

Depending on the individual, the above meal plan—while eating normal portions—can help a person lose 3-7 pounds in 2 weeks. If you follow this eating plan, you do so at your own risk.  Please make smart and loving decisions about your health.

5. Shine like you mean it!

Our outer beauty is best enhanced through our inner work.

The more self-love we possess, the less stressed-out we are, and the more kindness we show — the more beautiful and timeless we become. This is first and foremost. Then, add to that a little self-care and personal attention and you will shine bright like a diamond!

Small things you can do to increase your confidence and good feelings for an event is to wear an outfit that makes you feel amazing, put make-up to accent your features, wear jewelry that makes you feel special, and spray a little perfume to get you in the mood.

Bigger things you can do is to get your hair and nails done. A relaxing massage before an event is nice to calm the nerves and make you feel at ease. A quick exercise session will also relieve tension while increasing your “feel-good” hormones.

The key to dressing for an event is to dress for the occasion, stay true to your personal style, and feel comfortable in what you’re wearing. Ideally, your clothes, jewelry, and make-up should enhance how you want to “feel.”

6. Seize the day!

On the day of the event permit yourself to have fun.

Connect. Laugh. Eat and drink to be satisfied and merry.

Most of all, be present and let your inner beauty shine. 

Remember, this is just one moment in your lifetime. Take it in.

6 Ageless Beauty Tips to Weatherproof Your Face & Hands in the Winter

Winter season is in full effect and this is the time when our skin — especially the tender skin on the face — can get damaged by the elements.

Cold weather dries the skin and can create bumps and irritations due to the freezing temperatures and dry atmosphere. Lips are prone to chapping and the skin around the nose can peel and redden because of broken capillaries from blowing our noses and being exposed to the cold.

Winter is the time where we can amass the most wrinkles because of dry skin and harsh winds that hit the skin around the eyes and forehead. Making matters worse, it’s darker outside and so we don’t use our sunglasses as much to protect our eyes and the skin around the eyes.

Air pollution also affects the quality and health of our skin. Hot weather brings about  certain pollution issues mainly the ozone, and things that relate to ultraviolet radiation and sunlight. Winter has its own seasonal air pollutants such as increased carbon monoxide, nitrates, and sulfur coming from both home and commercial use. Increased energy use to heat homes and buildings from using furnaces, fireplaces, to industrial coal-burning — depending on where you live — the winter season can have more impact on your skin and overall health.

6 Ageless Beauty Tips to “Weatherproof” Your Face & Hands in the Winter

1. Moisturize Religiously

Increase the amount of moisturizer you use. Apply double the amount you normally use especially at night to penetrate and protect your skin during the day — think pre-load! Apply moisturizer throughout the day if you’re working or playing outside.

I use natural oils such as olive, coconut, vitamin E, and argan oil to moisturize my face. Combining oils work for my skin type so here is what I do for day and evening::

  • For the day, I use a combination of equal parts olive oil and argan oil.

In the evening::

  • For deep moisturizing I use equal parts vitamin E oil and olive oil.
  • For skin redness or irritation I use equal parts coconut oil and olive oil.
  • For skin rejuvenation I mix a 2-3 drops of vitamin C serum and olive oil.

Try not to use any alcohol based moisturizer or skin toner as this will dry out your skin. Only use organic oils and moisturizers because we don’t need pesticides on our faces. 2. Exfoliate Often

Exfoliate your skin every day (less for sensitive skin) to remove dead skin cells and air particulates — dirt and pollutants — that may be embedded in your skin. Dead skin cells can make skin look flaky and patchy and can clog pores causing bumps. Dirt can irritate skin especially if you sleep on it. Even if you don’t exfoliate, you should wash your face every evening and apply fresh moisturizer for general skin health and vibrancy.

3. Cover Your Face

Protect your facial skin.  Wear a hat or beanie to cover your forehead in extreme cold to prevent drying and the creation of fine lines.

Wear sunglasses even if it’s not sunny to protect your eyes and so that the tender skin around the eyes doesn’t get dry or  develop fine lines from wind and pollutants. I own a pair of lightly tinted sun glasses which I specifically use in the winter.  Wearing sunglasses helps in the prevention of crows feet as sunglasses stop you from squinting due to the sun rays or wind.

Use a scarf or muffler to cover your neck, cheeks, lip, and nose area when you’re walking outside to protect your skin and to limit the amount of environmental pollutants you breathe in.

4. Nourish Your Lips

Protect your lips with non-toxic lip treatments. I use coconut oil or olive oil to moisturize my lips. I like natural lip balms and moisturizing lipsticks and tints. Also, avoid licking your lips too often because this will cause it to chap more easily.

5. Give Your Face Weekly Treatments

Jeanne loves her skin roller!Treat your skin to a hydrating face mask like one made of 1 mashed avocado with a teaspoon of honey or equal parts mixture of apple-cider vinegar and natural calcium bentonite clay for “winter healing” and anti-aging benefits!  I love using my “face roller” to help with collagen production and increase skin blood flow and then applying 100% Pure’s Super Fruits Reparative Cream. I also use my Clarisonic a few times a month to aid  in the skin cycle process so that new and vibrant skin is revealed faster. 😉

6. Safe-guard Your Hands

Use gloves to protect your hands. The skin on your hands can easily get dry, cracked, and can toughen and roughen from being exposed to wind and freezing temperatures.

Moisturize your hands regularly after washing. Do not use harsh antibacterial soaps as it dries your skin, removes your natural oils disturbing the balance of your acid mantel (your natural defense system against bacteria), and can make you susceptible to super bugs. If you feel that your nail beds and skin around the nails are suffering from the cold, rub a drop of your favorite oil into them.

How to Manage Your Skin When You are Sick

Be gentle when blowing your nose to limit broken capillaries. Add extra moisturizer to your nose to prevent peeling. Apply more lip moisturizer as lips tend to get dry, chapped, and cracked when you’re fighting a cold. Increase your fluid intake to stay hydrated which helps you get well and keeps your skin from drying out.

If you’re taking any medication which may dry out your skin such as cold medicines, antihistamines, and antibiotics — along with hydrating and getting adequate electrolytes — also take probiotics such as Kefir, kombucha, and fermented foods to improve gut flora which will help you get better as well as improve your skin health. Apply even more moisturizer on your skin when you’re sick because the skin — your largest organ — is “neglected” when your body systems are busy at “work” getting the rest of you better.

Enjoy the winter season as it’s a great time to play outside — bundled up and skin protected of course! Then head inside to eat a home-cooked, hearty, healthy meal, and snuggle to a good rom-com or listen to your favorite music. Day 11: How to Create a Unique and Timeless Fashion Style

Timeless fashion is where you can express your personality, feelings, and freedom in what you wear.

Your timeless fashion sense is unique to you and as you grow, expand, and change as a person—getting a deeper understanding of yourself—so will your fashion style evolve. Your fashion approach then becomes timeless and time appropriate as it’s always displaying your true self at any given moment.

This confidence to express your true self through fashion or any other way such as your thoughts, words, and actions take cultivation, exploration, and time.

You need to cultivate who you are as a person. Learn your likes and dislikes. What makes you happy, sad, curious, mad, and so on… Discover what drives and excites you.

Then, you need to explore these different parts of you — these feelings and ideas that make you who you are. In regards to fashion, this would mean testing out different clothing until you find the “look” that feels just right.

You will know when you’ve found it because it will feel like what you’re wearing is just an  extension of you. Your clothes will no longer be something that covers, distracts, or takes away from people seeing the real you. Instead, your clothes will express and accentuate your inner beauty and confidence.

Finally, it all comes together in time and in this, a certain amount of faith must be had. You have to trust that you will figure out the right thing for you. That you will discover a style of your very own.

Your DAY 11 challenge:

You are going to cultivate, explore, and give yourself the time to discover your unique timeless fashion.

Here are ways to “cultivate & explore” your fashion style:

1. Write out what you would like your clothes to say about you.

Example things a person can say…

  • I want my clothes to show that I’m a professional, strong, and capable woman.
  • I want my clothes to show that I’m an independent, sexy, powerhouse.
  • I want my clothes to express that I’m a happy, fun, and easy-going person.

And with your timeless fashion sense — YOU could be all these things at one time or another. You are not one feeling, one thought, and one action — YOU are constantly evolving and so should your look.

2. Create a Pinterest board of clothes, styles, and looks that appeal to you.

3. Go through your wardrobe and spring clean — remove clothes that don’t support the “look” and feelings you want your clothes to convey.

4. Go try on clothes—be daring—try stuff you wouldn’t normally wear just to see how it makes you feel.

5. Start dressing “how you feel.”

Examples are:

If you’re feeling happy then wear clothes that mean “happiness” to you.

If you’re sad, you have two choices in what to wear: a) you can wear something that makes you feel protected and comfortable so you can get deep into feeling your feelings or b) you can perk yourself up by putting on something that will make you happy.

AND BOTH choices are fine. YOU choose the one that is right for you at that moment. Remember, timeless fashion is about having the freedom to express your feelings in what you’re wearing. It’s your body. Your choice. Your style.

Cultivating and exploring your timeless fashion is fun and totally part of your divine feminine. Give yourself the time to enjoy every minute of it! Dress up when you want. Dress down when want. Just dress to please YOU and you will get it right all the time.

Day 5: Reclaim Your Beauty Sleep for Mind, Body, and Soul

Beauty sleep is not just for looks; though there is truth in the words — the benefits of a restful night sleep also extend to your mind, body, and spirit.

Get beauty sleep for a beautiful mind — by this I mean clear and sharp!

Unhurried sleep and relaxation are necessary to have a healthy brain. It helps support a memory and cognitive function. Whereas lack of sleep impairs reasoning, problem-solving, and dumbs you down.

A study on mice showed that during sleep the brain releases toxins that accumulate during the day. The University of Rochester Medical center found that cerebrospinal fluid — a liquid that covers the brain and spine — may help remove brain toxins through a series of channels that expand during sleep. They believe this system of clearing can dissipate beta-amyloid a protein toxin that amasses in the brains of people with Alzheimer. Another study has shown that lack of sleep may shrink the brain and worsens as you age.

Get beauty sleep for a beautiful body – by this I mean rested and ready for action!

During sleep is when your body truly relaxes. Your breathing calms, heart rate slows, blood pressure drops, and muscles relax. In this state, the body restores and reenergizes itself. This is the optimal time for the body to repair tissues and cells helping you stay healthy and ageless.

Conversely, being deprived of sleep may lead to heart disease, high blood pressure, weight gain, and a weakened physical state. Lack of sleep will take away the body’s essential healing time which unchecked will wreak havoc on everything from body function to body appearance hastening the aging process.

Get beauty sleep for your soul – by this I mean awakened and connected!

It is my belief that during deep sleep — when you are able to dream — you become connected to higher spiritual states. Through your dreams subconscious thoughts play out, other worlds come alive, and you become aware of hidden understanding – wisdom not available to you when you’re awake.

For intuitive women — or women who wish to become more intuitive — the dream/sleep state is a great way to develop this skill. I have found that awareness in your dreams leads to awareness in your reality. (All good stuff to help you be a she-ro sister!)

Your DAY 5 Challenge:

Try to increase your beauty sleep!

Each person is slightly different when it comes to how many hours they need to get a good night sleep. One way to gauge if you are getting enough sleep is to monitor your energy levels when you wake. Are you tired or do you feel energized? Also, how do you look – is your skin bright and looking well-rested? Or do your eyes look red and skin look pallid? The answers to these questions will let you know if you need more sleep.

If you find that you need to reclaim your beauty sleep then fix your sleep cycle so that you can have more restful sleep. Create a sleep schedule that blocks out time where you will make an effort to sleep more.

For example, if you’re only getting 5 hours of sleep, schedule yourself to go to bed earlier and try to get 5 ½. Do that for a few days, then go to bed a little earlier again and try for 6 hours. Each day check in with yourself — do you feel better? If so, then maintain those hours or try for even more sleep and see how much better you feel. Remember — YOU ARE THE SCIENTIST OF YOU!

You may also try…

  • A warm shower or bath before bed to relax the mind and body for a more restful sleep.
  • Lavender oil mixed with olive oil or almond oil helps to calm the body and senses.
  • Deep focused breathing while laying down helps to relax the mind and muscles.
  • Self-massage with a ball or foam roller increases blood flow and releases muscle tension helping you to be more relaxed.

Day 2: How to have Ageless Glowing Skin

Welcome to my 14 Day Ageless Lifestyle Makeover Challenge series!

Ageless glowing skin will look  different on everyone, but it will have one thing in common – it will look healthy.

I’ve written similar posts in the past where I share what I do to have glowing skin, etc. and it was received well. This time I want to empower you to find your own skin care regiment. A skin care system that works for your skin type and lifestyle. (If you really want to know what I do click here for a quick break down.)

To become empowered, you first have to become informed.

In this case, before you can improve your skin health — and I mean create real change within the body so you practically glow outside without the aid of fake sparkly cream — you need to know what’s happening with your skin right now.

I want you to become the scientist and your body be your research project.

Your goal is to find out what is going on with your skin so that you can create a skin-care system that supports its health and beauty.

Your DAY 2 challenge:

Gather information about the state of your skin and the things — environment, food, stress level — to name a few that are affecting its look and health and then go about ‘testing’ remedies until you find the one that works for YOU.

This exercise will take longer than a day , so you have the next 21 days to figure it out. Come back to this post when you’ve made some ‘findings’ and let us know how you’re doing ma!

1. Take stock of how your skin looks today.

Describe what your skin looks like and how it feels. Like all good scientists, write your observations so you have something to compare to later.

For example:

  • Face: feels rough around the jaw and ear area, is oily on the nose and chin, break outs around the chin area, dry and wrinkly in eye area, wrinkly and dry in forehead area
  • Neck & Chest: feels smooth mostly, sun spots on chest, slightly oily
  • Arms: bumps on the back of the arms, reddish coloring, feels dry
  • Legs: feels dry and scaly, looks dull

You can be as detailed as you want. Pay close attention to the things you want to make better. Take pictures of your current skin state so that you have a starting point and images to refer back to when you’re doing your ‘testing’. As any good scientist will tell you — we want observable and measurable change so that we can make real conclusions.

2. Write down your current skin care regiment.

What do you do for your skin from morning to night. Note the products you use and how your skin feels right after using it, and then how it feels a few hours later.

For example:

  • After I wash my face with A, it feels very dry, but then I put moisturizer B and it feels OK. In the afternoon, my skin feels very dry again in some areas like my eyes, but oily in others like my nose. My body lotion C feels good, but I notice I always have to reapply and still have dry patches.

3. Observe your environment.

Your surroundings — the air quality, weather, pollution, dust, and even lighting — can affect the quality of your skin making it dull, dry, and acne prone.

Example observations:

  • When it’s below 50 degrees outside my skin gets very rough and dry.
  • I notice more sunspots accrue on my hands, chest, and face in the summer months.
  • When I’m around dust and it accidentally goes on my skin I notice I get bumps.
  • I notice I get bumps on my face when I’m around 2nd hand smoke.
  • After a full day of work under fluorescent lighting and my computer I notice my skin extra dry, especially on my hands.

4. Log your food and liquid intake.

What you ingest plays a LARGE role on your skin, hair, nails, and even in the whites of your eyes appearance.  The following exercise is part of the intuitive eating method I teach my life-coaching clients so that they can create a healthy body from the inside out. This method will help you figure out what is going on with your skin so you can make better choices for its health.

For the moment, don’t make any changes to your diet. Just write what you normally eat and drink.

Example things to look for:

  • Do you notice any skin allergies after you eat a particular type of food?
  • Do you notice any itching, bumps, acne, or dry patches on your skin after eating a certain food?
  • Does your skin look drier or more supple after you drink certain liquids such as coffee, energy drinks, sports drinks, alcohol, and water?
  • Ask your intuition — do you think certain foods affect your skin? What are they?

For example too much sugar in your diet makes your body and skin age faster through a process called Advanced Glycation End Products (AGES). =(

5. Track your activity level.

The amount of movement you do, muscle you have, and even how your sweat mingles with the natural oils on your skin affect its health and look. Movement such as walking or any exercise increases blood flow bringing nutrients, oxygen, and aids in the removal of waste in your organs and whole body. The skin is your largest organ, ergo more “moving” equals better skin health.

The amount of muscle you have in your body will affect how your skin looks — if it’s taut or saggy. Sweating helps with skin moisture, increases acid mantle (coating on your skin that prevents bacteria and fungi from growing), and removal of toxins helping your skin to be clear and healthy.

Write down when you exercise or move for long periods. (This is a good  idea for your health in general!)

Example things to look for:

  • How does your skin look before and after exercise?
  • Do you notice if you have breakouts if you don’t shower right away after exercise?
  • Do you feel like you don’t move enough and it contributes to poor blood circulation and dull skin?
  • Do you feel like you move too much and your skin looks older than it should? (Too much exercise can make skin look old and dry from dehydration and increased free radical creation causing premature aging)
  • Do you feel like if you had more muscle in your body your skin would look better?

Write down these observations — take pictures too — so that when we carry out the “testing” phase you will see the difference.

6. Write down your mental state and stress levels.

What goes on inside your head affects your whole body. From your brain activating its fight or flight response to constantly thinking negative thoughts — all these actions affect your hormone levels, metabolism, and other bodily functions which not only can upset your health, but also influence your skins look and feel.

Example things to observe:

  • Do you notice your skin dryer when you are stressed?
  • Do you notice your skin break out more when you’re under pressure?
  • What do you mentally focus on about your skin? Do you always see its imperfections?
  • How do you feel about your skin in general?

7. Log your sleep cycle.

The amount of sleep you get is directly related to how good your skin looks. A good night sleep not only prevents under-eye bags, it also helps the body repair muscle, cells, and normalize body functions so that you can be healthy, strong, and awake to enjoy your ageless lifestyle.

Things to note:

  • How much sleep do you get?
  • Is your sleep restful?
  • Do you notice changes in your skin when you don’t get enough sleep versus when you get more?
  • Do you feel like you get enough sleep?

The answers to all these questions will lead you to create a skin-care regiment that gives you the ageless glowing skin that is all your own.

When you know the problem and contributing factors, then you can make changes in your life to fix them. After you’ve done the research part, then it will be time to do the “testing” phase—finding out what works and what doesn’t!

The “Testing” Phase

  • Slowly start replacing your beauty products. I recommend opting for more natural, organic, and toxic chemical free solutions. Observe and note how your skin reacts to each product for a few days and eliminate what doesn’t work.
  • You figured out how your environment affects your skin so start implementing solutions such as using lotion or oils that create more moisture for your skin during the winter months, wearing more protection on hot days, or making an effort to stay away from pollutants. When it comes to our environment, many times we don’t have a choice, but we can do things to help ourselves get through them.
  • From your research you became aware how certain foods and liquids affected your skin. Begin to cut or limit certain food & drink and see how your skin adapts. Start adding certain foods and liquids that promote skin health and hydration and then see how your skin changes. Keep doing what works.
  • Logging your activity gave you insight on how much you move and how your body responds. Add to your movement regiment — more walking, some moderate weight lifting, and stretching — and see how your skin reacts.
  • From your notes, you probably have a better understanding of how your mental state and stress levels impact your skin health. Look for ways to decrease stress and boost your self-esteem. Self-talk — what you believe and say to yourself — plays a big role in your skin and general appearance. (Your body listens to your mind sister!)
  • Improve your sleeping habits. The amount of sleep-hours  needed will be different for everyone, but the key to knowing your perfect number is that upon waking you FEEL and LOOK rested. If you wake and feel sluggish, look dry and haggard, then you need more sleep. Lack of sleep over works your organs and body systems which ages your whole body prematurely.  Find ways to get more rest and relaxation so that your body — and skin — will feel rejuvenated.

This phase is filled with trial and error, but like all good scientists — you are eager to get to the truth — so keep at it!

In DAY 2 I shared with you what it takes to get ageless glowing skin. Moreover, I taught you how to create a holistic skin care regiment. I know it’s a lot.

But here is a dose of reality, no matter what skin care lotion you use, it will not fix the outside look of your skin if what’s going on inside — your metabolism, mental state, and hormone levels, just to name a few — are messed up.

It’s like using a band-aid to fix a broken arm. You have to deal with the core issues and fix them to get the best outcome you desire.

Anyhow, there are a few more things to consider when caring for your skin health, but this should give you a good place to start. Good luck with your beautiful research project – YOU!

14 Day Ageless Lifestyle Makeover Challenge

Lots of women are used to putting everything else before themselves;  this is also admirable. Women are the great givers and nurturers. But let’s be real, if all this “giving and nurturing” is done in sacrifice of our own health and happiness then we’ve really shortchanged ourselves. (We deserve to feel good too!)

Just like in an airplane emergency, they ask that you put on your air-mask first before you help others (because it’s easier to be helpful when you can breathe), prioritize your health and wellbeing — put yourself first in this regard — be strong, healthy, and happy and see how much more helpful you can be to everyone and everything you love.

All you have to do is check my blog daily during the 14 days (preferably in the morning so you have all day to do the exercise if you want).  If you like the topic and my advice, do the challenge and incorporate some of the ideas into your own life.

My Top 10 Ageless Living Habits Part 1

We develop our habits daily. The everyday stuff we repeat are the practices we cultivate. From the thoughts we think to the actions we take — we are always furthering these ways of living.

Repetition is key in creating a habit. After doing something over and over, the habit is formed and then becomes part of our everyday routine. At some point, the habit becomes so engrained in us that we do it unconsciously.

Some of our habits are good and some are not. Here are 10 of my positive daily habits that I would love to pass on to you because they support ageless living – a life about optimal health, mind-body-spirit coherence, and exuding a timeless way of being. If you like my habit suggestions, do them as often as you can and turn them into your daily practices!

1. Get into the habit of thanking your lucky stars daily!

Every morning—before I’m out of the bed—I give gratitude. I say thank you for whatever comes in my groggy head. It could be yesterday’s events or thinking good thoughts for the coming day. Either way, I say at least 3-5 things I’m grateful for. Last year, I also made it a point to do this before I touched my cellphone because there came a time when I started to reach for my phone first.

Practicing gratitude daily puts you in a good mood, gets you smiling, and motivated to participate in your day.

2. Begin a routine of eating breakfast you love.

I do believe breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Some people may argue and don’t get me wrong, eating throughout the day is just as important, but breakfast has a few things going for it that make it a little more significant in my eyes!

Top 3 reasons to eat a breakfast you love:

  • It jump-starts energy production. During sleep your body is fasting which slows down your body’s energy-generating process because you don’t need much. But, when you wake up, you want energy production to get going because you got stuff to do. Eating breakfast initiates this process. It gets your digestive system going which revs up your metabolism.
  • Eating breakfast puts you in a better mood than if you didn’t have breakfast. One word – hangry. Eat a breakfast you love and not only will you be energized, avoid hunger-pains, you will also feel amazing. The act of providing yourself with a tasty and nutritious breakfast could also be viewed as a type of self-love—showing how you prioritize your well-being.
  • Eat a breakfast you love and steer your day to be more positive. It’s like the saying, “Start off on the right foot!” because if you start the day off right and it’s more likely to go right.

Having a good breakfast supports an ageless lifestyle by providing you with usable energy,  a good mood, and directing your day towards awesomeness!

The breakfast I love consists of 1 Paleo pancake, 2 eggs, berries, with maple syrup, and my bulletproof tea. Eating this breakfast daily makes me healthy, happy, and ready for my day. I also learned a trick about breakfast—making it that much better—but I’m saving that nugget for part 2.

3. Put coconut oil on every thang!

Eat virgin coconut oil because it boosts your immune system. When you consume coconut oil you are providing your body with essential nutrients such as a healthy source of saturated fat and lauric acid, the most important essential fatty acid in building and maintaining a healthy immune system.

Put coconut oil on your face and body for ageless and acne free skin. Coconut oil has antioxidants to help prevent aging from free radicals. The anti-bacteria properties of coconut oil help the face stay clean from bacteria that can cause bumps, pimples, and acne.

By ingesting and through topical application, coconut oil also helps hair, skin, and nail health. Coconut oil-pulling improves gum health, kills bacteria, and freshens your breath.

I eat 1tbs of coconut oil every day in my bulletproof tea (also with 1 tbs of grass-fed unsalted butter). I use coconut oil straight from the jar as my body lotion and face moisturizer every other day. The other times I will use olive oil, argan oil, or almond oil (only for body). I also mix them together.

For example, if I see a little redness on my skin because of an irritation or potential pimple, I combine olive oil and coconut oil together and then the next day my skin is back to normal. I oil-pull with coconut anytime I feel a sickness coming on — sore throat, cold, or even extreme tiredness.

4. Jump on the bandwagon of organic or bust!

The hype is legit. There is a difference between foods sprayed with toxic chemicals and foods not sprayed. There is a difference between meat from animals fed on a GMO corn diet and those that are not.

MIT professor Stephanie Seneff declared, “At today’s rate, by 2025, one in two children will be autistic.”

She claims autism closely mimic those of glyphosate toxicity. Glyphosate –- the key ingredient in Roundup the weed killer — is used in the farming of corn, soy, and wheat.

Products made from food sprayed with Roundup (and genetically engineered foods made to withstand Roundup) such as bread, pasta, cereal, or drinks and candies sweetened by corn syrup add to the levels of glyphosate in the body.

Let’s just look at this logically -– if kids are getting messed up from this -– what is happening to adults?

While Monsanto insists that Roundup is as safe to humans as aspirin, Seneff and Samsel’s research tells a different story altogether. Their report, published in the journal Entropy1, argues that glyphosate residues, found in most commonly consumed foods in the Western diet courtesy of GE sugar, corn, soy and wheat, “enhance the damaging effects of other food-borne chemical residues and toxins in the environment to disrupt normal body functions and induce disease.”

So increased glyphosate in the adult body  worsens any other food chemicals that are inside all the processed and non-organic  foods you’re eating. Then it disrupts normal body functions.  Think for a minute all the functions your body does to keep you alive and healthy—from turning food to energy, regulating blood, rebuilding cells, and so forth. You don’t want to throw a wrench in that finely-tuned clockwork system. To top it off, elevated glyphosate can bring about disease.

MIT professor Stephanie Seneff has sent the memo. Listen to your own gut instinct and get in the habit of reaching for the certified organic label when it’s available.

By the way, what do you think is happening to the insides of cows, chickens, and pigs who eat genetically modified corn, or wheat and soy which were sprayed with Roundup?

5. Introduce yourself to the 80/20 lifestyle.

The 80/20 health & fitness rule basically means a “B” effort will keep you kosher. Anyone who has ever tried to give 100% percent to anything knows the difficulty. For example going organic and grass-fed 100% of the time is pretty much impossible — unless you never eat out again.

With the 80/20 lifestyle, I am able to succeed in eating healthier. I choose to only buy and cook organic foods in my home and then throw caution to the wind when I eat out. And, I try to eat out only 20% of the time.

Our reality is what it is; we can’t avoid every bad thing in the world. As in all things, control what you can which are your thoughts and actions. Also, when it comes to mindful eating, do as I do and  bless your food.

I believe our words have an impact on the food and how our body accepts them. Think of it like the placebo effect where your mind has the power to create a more favorable outcome for you. If you believe in the power of positive thinking, then blessing your food should be a no-brainer. It’s basically thinking good thoughts about what you’re eating!

Want proof that what you “think” about your food matters and how your body reacts with measurable biological changes from said thoughts? Watch the “Milkshake Experiment.

The researchers explained: “The effect of food consumption on ghrelin may be psychologically mediated, and mindset meaningfully affects physiological responses to food.”

By the way, you can also apply this principle to your fitness, beauty, and self-care routine. Take care of your needs 80% of the time and realize the ease of ageless living.

5 Crystals for Health and Longevity

Are you looking for ways to improve the quality of your life? Like having better health, increased happiness, and more balance?

Perhaps you’re even interested in increasing your life span?

How about making life a touch more magical? (Why not?!)

Crystals are a great way to improve your well-being and longevity. They are beautiful and certainly look magical, but their abilities to positively affect your life are scientific. Of course if you prefer to think that mother nature is working her magic on you, then by all means — believe it!

How do crystals work?

Crystals, like all matter are made of energy and emit a frequency. Crystals in particular, because of their fixed repeating molecular pattern emit a high frequency. When you are in the presence of crystals, your frequency is affected — it becomes entrained to that of the crystal. In physics this is called the principle of entrainment.

Entrainment (physics), the process whereby two interacting oscillating systems assume the same period

Your lower frequency moves into resonance with the crystals higher frequency creating greater complexity, reducing entropy, and bringing your body into better health and longevity.

A crystal will have a constant resonant frequency or dominant oscillary rate whereas a human being will have varied frequencies. Everything in our body, from cells, organs, and even our thoughts emit a different frequency.

I like using the metaphor of a symphony orchestra. Have in your mind that these different parts of you (cells, organs, thoughts, etc.) are separate instruments that make up your orchestra. Just as each instrument has its own unique sound, each cell has its own distinct frequency.

When we are healthy and balanced all these frequencies are in harmony; when our orchestra plays, we sound fantastic. What happens if one of our instruments is out of tune? Then our symphony will sound off — we’ll be in disharmony.

Humans, because of our complex lives fall easily into this “out of tune” dilemma. Our instruments (cells, organs, thoughts, etc.) can be affected by things such as stress, food, activity, lack of sleep, pollution, and EMF’s (electromagnet fields) to name a few.

This falling “out of tune” — a disorder of our harmony — is called entropy. It takes an effort on our part — as the conductor — to continually keep our symphony orchestra in order.

Crystals, because of their perfect geometric makeup and inherent complexity have a harder time going into entropy.  Basically, they don’t get “out of tune” easily. In fact, they keep order very well, consistently emitting a high frequency.

These crystal properties make them ideal to help us stay in harmony. The crystals stable high frequency can influence our varying lower frequency. In this way, the crystals help our symphony stay in ‘opening-night’ playing order! (Tantadada!)

Here are 5 crystals for health and longevity:

Amethyst – Helps with physical, emotional, and mental balance. Good for hormones, immune system, and nervous system.

Citrine – Helps to bring about joy, happiness, and abundance. Good for digestive system, tissue regeneration, and heart health.

Garnet – Helps with vitality, flow, and abundance. Good for blood flow, emotional balance, and a healthy sex drive.

Quartz – Helps with quality of life, improving energy, mental focus, and relieves negative energy. Good for heart health.

Tourmaline — Helps with mental health and healing. Good for digestion, lymphatic system, and aids in detoxing.

There are over 4000 crystals, stones, and minerals. Each of them has their own special metaphysical qualities.  Crystal healing has been around for thousands of years so there is a plethora of information available. There are certainly more crystals than what I listed above to help with health and longevity, but this is a good place to start.

Place crystals in your home, especially by your bed. Wear them on your person.  Work with a crystal healer like myself to help you find more life harmony.  Either way, make sure you know which crystals you’re using and what their healing qualities are so you get the outcome you desire.

One way to incorporate crystals in your daily life is to drink a crystal elixir. A crystal elixir, also called a gem elixir is water entrained to the vibrations of the crystals used. Please be cautious when making crystal elixirs as some crystals are toxic. With that said, let me share with you my elixir for ageless living 😉

Inspire Youthful Crystal Elixir

1. Glass water jug

2. Water

3. Crystals: 2 amethyst, 2 citrine, 1 quartz

(OR you can use 3 chevron amethysts as it has quartz in it already + 2 citrine OR 4 ametrine because that’s amethyst and citrine together + 1 quartz)

4. Pen, paper, and tape

5. Sunshine

Directions:

1. Wash crystals and place them in water jug

2. Fill jug with water

3. Bless the water — say to the water, ‘Good health, long life, joyful existence’ or something to that effect (Read the works of Masaru Emoto to learn more about the power of water blessings)

4. Write out the words: joy, health, youthful, love, and gratitude then tape it to the water jug with the words facing the water (You don’t have to do #4 if you did #3 or vice versa — do what’s easiest)

5. Let it “marinate” under the sun to get prana energy for even more potency

Interview with Kath Rivera Beauty Blogger Extraordinaire

Like the conscious girly-girl I am, I love natural beauty products — it’s the only way to go!

I came across Kath Rivera’s blog when I was searching for natural ways to whiten my sun spots. (I’ve used lemon wedges with no success — boo!)

She’s a self-professed organic junkie and when I checked out her blog she had a plethora of product reviews on everything from beauty products to health supplements so I reached out to her!

Kath  is founder of KathRivera.com a popular beauty, fashion, and lifestyle blog for the Philippines. She writes about the latest trends, product launches, and reviews a ton of beauty and health related products. She’s partnered with GNC, Natura Organics, and IWhite Korea.

1. What’s your number one organic beauty product that you can’t live without?

Organic whitening soaps! I use two variants of organic whitening soaps everyday. I alternate brands that I like and I also choose the type to use depending on my skin care needs. My favorite organic whitening soap variants are kojic, calamansi, green papaya, papaya, bearberry and jicama
