15 Thriving Women Share Their Health & Beauty Secrets

Last week I introduced you to 17 health & fitness pros who talked about what makes them feel healthy and amazing! This week, I want to showcase 15 thriving women — ladies who  prioritize their physical and mental well-being so that they can be the heroes (she-roes) of their life!

Smart women know that when they take care of their needs they are better equipped — having more strength, stamina, and peace of mind — to handle the challenges of everyday life. (A healthy & happy woman can do more for those she loves!)

Read what they do to stay healthy, fit, and feeling beautiful. Next to some of their ideas I added ‘Facts’ supporting their good habits. Try them out and adopt the ones that make your life better! 😀

Meet Alessandra! She’s an investment manager in Milan.

She says, “I love to go to the gym three times a week and play tennis once or twice to maintain my health and beauty.”

She says, “I like to eat fruits before my workout and a cereal bar after.”

Fact: Your body metabolizes the simple sugar in fruits quickly giving you usable energy to kick butt at the gym!

Alessandra says, “my favorite natural beauty products are Argan oil, jojoba oil, and aloe gel. I use these oils before going to bed on wet skin. Sometimes I mix them with aloe gel in the same quantity. I find them fantastic as anti-aging !”

Fact: Argan oil is high in antioxidants good for inside and outside body health. Antioxidants fight free-radical damage which may cause premature aging.

angelaTMeet Angela! She’s a mother of 3 and a pioneer chef!

She says, “I love kettle bell and club bell workouts because they hit so many muscle groups, and get my heart rate up in 30 minutes.  I feel pretty empowered swinging around a cannon ball, too. I also love the TRX cables, with its space-saving utilitarian workouts that can be used for all levels.  My other favorite piece of equipment to throw in the mix is a bosu ball.  I can get bored easily with repetition, so I often drop-in on yoga classes.”

Angela says, “Being a mother of three, sprinting from class to work to dropping-off/picking-up kids, a nice hot shower is the most beautiful thing. I love scrub my skin with some epsom salt to exfoliate my skin in the shower.  I use tonic of water, raw apple cider vinegar, essential oils and a few drops of baby shampoo (for emulsifying mixture) to clarify the oils in my hair while I do my salt scrub.  I also can’t live without 100% Pure Coffee Bean Eye Cream for tired, puffy eyes. ”

Angela takes health food and drinks to another level! She says, “lately, I’ve been making cold-brewed coffee in my French press, by steeping ground coffee beans, dandelion root, ground cacao and chicory root.  In the mornings, I will melt coconut oil, pastured ghee and a piece of 85% dark chocolate with my spice/herb blend of ground cardamom, ginger, turmeric, black pepper, cayenne, ashwaganda with 8 oz hot water. I add approximately 4 oz  of refrigerated homemade cold-brew coffee, and top it off with coconut milk.  It may sound strange, but it’s like a chai cafe au lait.”

Fact: Dark chocolate has as more antioxidants than blueberries! Indulge mindfully and reap the benefits of naturally increased energy, better mood, and fighting free radicals in the most delicious way!

angieGMeet Angie! She’s a full-time working Mom who’s always down for an adventure and good eats!

Her favorite workout is running. She says, “I have a passion for running. I used to despise even the idea of running but as time passed and miles were ran I quickly fell in love. At first it was another workout added to my routine to lose weight but it has become something so much more than that to me. There’s just a feeling that overcomes me that I can’t quite explain.

All I know is that I’m out there giving it my all, pushing and competing with no one else but me. I can look back at the streets I’ve ran and say “I did that!” and feel like a super bad ass about it!” She also says, “I like to do home workouts, yoga, hiking, and recently I found joy out of kickboxing!”

Angie enjoys essential oils! She says, “My favorite oil for beauty is tea tree oil. I have frequent breakouts with hormonal acne and tea tree oil does wonders on targeted areas on my skin. It calms the redness and dries out those pesky pimples! I’ve also recently tried out African Black Soap, it’s great for those who have sensitive skin and have trouble with acne, oily skin, rashes, etc.”

Angie can’t get enough of her amino acids! She says, “Alpha Aminos by Cellucor is hands down my favorite supplement of all time. No matter if I run or do a gym workout I am always chugging down some BCAA’s (Branched-Chain Amino Acids). Not only does it enhance my endurance and helps with muscle recovery, but it also gives me that extra push so I could perform at my best. Other than that I drink loads of coffee for energy!”

Fact: BCAA’s are naturally found in food — especially meat, dairy, and legumes. It helps with exercise performance, reduces muscle break-down, and prevents fatigue.

audraCMeet Audra! She’s a wife, mother of 4, and a human resources professional.

Her favorite workout is walking. She says, “I love breathing in the fresh air and looking at what’s around me and appreciating it. After a good walk, my mind feels clear and recharged. I can add intensity by adding hills in my route.”

Audra says, “I love pure coconut oil. I use it as a moisturizer, make up remover, in my daughters’ hair, and it is the best cuticle oil. I love the healing properties including calming my eczema.”

Fact: Coconut oil has antibacterial properties making it a natural way to get clear skin.

She says, “my favorite healthy meal is scrambled eggs with fresh avocado. I call this my power breakfast. Sometimes, I might splurge and add a gluten free sausage like Aidell’s  chicken apple sausage with kale and sun-dried tomato.”

elyseJMeet Elyse! She’s a writer, Huffington Post blogger, mom, and new grandmother!

She says, “I adored Pilates. If I could keep Jeanne and her reformer under my bed, I’d be ecstatic. But, for a daily and more practical exercise that consistently enlivens, walking is my choice. Whether on noisy urban streets or the stillness and beauty of the park, walking is my favorite.

Even when feeling lethargic, I know once I start walking, my energy changes. Knowing myself, I do not hold myself to a pre-determined amount of time, steps or pace. Just walk, I tell myself, and soon I am moving and finding delight. It’s worked for me for over 50 years.”

Elyse says, “A skin care routine works well for that instant feeling of being beautiful. I’ve tried different products with different results but it’s the application itself that I enjoy. Taking the time to stare at my changing face in the mirror while applying the product is a balm in itself.”

Fact: A positive self-image not only bolsters confidence, it also contributes to the overall well-being of a person. A person with a good self-image is generally less stressed, makes better choices when it comes to food and activity, and has a brighter outlook on life.

She says, “I still love kale and quinoa. Drink? Hmm, does campari and orange count as healthy? If not, how about coconut water, it’s still a favorite.”

irinaBMeet Irina! She’s a mother of two amazing kids and a full-time Legal Secretary in San Francisco.

She says, “I work out during my lunch hour at a local gym 4 times a week.  My favorite classes are Pilates, Bare and Cardio Strength and Alignment.   It works with my schedule and fits perfectly with my lifestyle. I find that I am very motivated to exercise in a group environment or best of all, with friends, and so one thing you will surely never see me doing is going for a run or getting on a treadmill.  I always try to have fun while I am working out, so it never feels like a chore.

On the weekends, I am usually on the run, spending a lot of time with my younger daughter, keeping my house in order, or running errands.  If I have free time, I love to go biking with my family.  For me, that is a perfect way to spend quality time with kids, enjoy fresh air at the park and get some cardio work done all at the same time!”

Fact: Varying your activity helps you to be more successful in staying fit because 1) you will have many options, 2) you engage the mind in different ways for each activity so you will not get bored, and 3) you will use different muscles in the various activities challenging the body and preventing over-use injury.

Irina says, “Spending time with my family, eating healthy, exercising, reading an awesome book, seeing my friends, and going on trips — all these positive things make me feel most beautiful because I strongly believe that true beauty comes from being happy and complete inside.

Also, I have put myself on the challenge of drinking a lot more water and I can totally see a difference in my skin condition and general health already!”

She says, “my favorite healthy foods are quinoa, edamame, kale, broccoli, nuts, beans, and avocados.  I do not eat meat or poultry and I found these healthy vegetarian foods to be excellent alternatives that are high in protein.  They are tasty and really good for you.

What I am crazy about right now is this little place called Native Juice Co in San Francisco. They make the most delicious smoothies and bites I have ever tried. They use ingredients like dandelion, spinach, kale, parsley, ginger, mint and lavender infused coconut milk, mixing it all up to taste absolutely heavenly.  Their menu is built around foods you can find at the local farmers markets that are grown organically in California, and like my favorite Helen Cavallo would say, “Now, That is Fresh!”

jamieEMeet Jamie! She a sales & marketing professional and a passionate animal advocate.

She says, “Dancing and hiking are my favorite movement activities because they are fun and a great way of tricking myself to get a good workout. Plus, it’s always fun to take the dog hiking and to enjoy the beautiful scenery. Riding the exercise bike is currently my favorite exercise, because it is convenient and I can watch TV, the workout goes by so quickly!”

Fact: Studies have shown that  owning pets may improve the health of its owner.  Through petting and snuggling a pet you release the ‘bonding’ hormone Oxytocin which makes you feel good, connected, reduces stress, and lowers blood pressure and heart rate. Dog owners tend to lead more active lives because they take their pets on frequent walks.

Jamie’s go-to natural beauty product these days is Burt’s Bees Firming Lotion. She says, “It helps with the dry Colorado weather and they offer great vegan product options.”

Jamie says, “There’s nothing like a glass of cold water after a workout to make me feel great. I also love avocados, banana/peanut butter/jelly sandwiches or if it’s a morning workout I’ll have Cheerios for breakfast. It also depends on the season, in the summer I’ll be happy eating watermelon!”

jenCMeet Jen! She’s a Merchandise Planner.

She says, “my favorite workout is boxing because it’s such a high energy and intensity workout! I love the cardio and the fun of getting to hit a bag while toning up muscle.”

Fact: Kickboxing is a great total body workout improving muscle tone in the legs, arms, and core.

Jen says, “I feel beautiful when I’m in my workout attire. Growing up I was never into sports nor was I athletic. In fact my cousins would joke and call me ‘kobe beef’ because my muscles must have been so tender from the lack of stimulation haha.

It wasn’t until after college that I embraced working out. I hired a personal trainer to get me started and now I enjoy workouts on my own. When I am dressed and ready for a workout it reminds me of how much I am no longer ‘kobe beef’ grade and I love being and feeling tough! I know I am taking my health into my own hands and the best part is I am enjoying it!”

Right now, Jen is loving Quest bars. She says, “They are great for protein 20-21g per bar, amazingly low on sugar 1-2g, and taste good!  For the days I workout at night I usually have one on my drive from the office to the gym and it fuels me through my workout and prevents me from overeating post workout.”

jessicaAMeet Jessica! She’s a 5th grade teacher and samba dancing queen!

She says, “dancing salsa and samba are by far my favorite workout methods!

Salsa because I can connect deeply with people without having to say a word, just using my body, and one dance is never the same. Samba because it’s so intense and forces me to focus on every single body part without thinking I’m “working hard”. They both help me let go of all my worries, laugh hard, have fun, and be social – which are all things I need in my life!”

Her favorite healthy drink is coconut water.

Fact: Coconut water is a great way to quench your thirst after a serious sweat-fest! It will replenish your energy and electrolytes lost from sweating.

jofFMeet Joy! She’s a working executive and TV addict!

Joy says, “I like interval training — mixing cardio (ellipticle or sprints) with core and strength training. I’ve found that a 30 min workout that incorporates cardio in-between focused weight training is more effective than running for 1 hour or doing a cardio machine for 1 hour. ”

Fact: Interval training and high-intensity training (HIT) improves endurance performance in some cases faster than traditional continuous endurance training.

Joy likes having a sun-kissed glow! She says, “I like to spray tan, use tinted moisturizer, and occasionally sunbathe to feel beautiful.”

Fact: The most natural way to get your much-needed Vitamin D is by spending time in the sun without sunscreen. 10 minutes a day of unguarded sun time helps with synchronizing your body rhythms, strengthen bones, supports immune system, improves mood, and protects against certain cancers and age-related diseases.

Joy enjoys more protein in her diet. She says, “I’ve learned to eat more protein when before I thought more protein = weight gain. So I’ve tried to find better protein shakes for post workouts that have little to no sugar, high protein and fiber, without any bad ingredients.”

karinaCMeet Karina! She’s a city girl running at the beach!

Karina’s favorite exercise is running. She says, “I love to run because it gives me a sense of accomplishment.  Throughout the years I’ve done everything from Spinning, Bar Method to Boot Camps and have never really gotten the results I’ve been looking for, but with running I usually feel lean.

My favorite part of running is clearing my head while running along the beach. Also, I just started Pilates about 1 1/2 months ago and it’s killer — love it! I’ve added Pilates to my exercise regimen to give me variation and to tone my arms as that’s the only muscle I don’t feel I’m working out while running.”

Karina feels beautiful when she’s wearing perfume! She says, “I love a good perfume especially because you can change it up by your mood. For something girlie I love Dior Cherie, for something bold I love Carven and for something sexy Lanvin.”

Her favorite health food is grilled salmon. She says, “My wonderful husband prepares it 3x a week. It’s a great protein to stay lean and when I want to splurge I make salmon tacos with corn tortilla and a delicious tomatillo/sour cream sauce.

I’m also obsessed and LOVE the Green juices from Kreation Juice along with the awesome tonic shots — it’s a little shot of joy! When my days are crazy and I don’t have time for lunch a good veggie drink fills me up and keeps me going till dinner.”

Fact: Wild salmon is a great source of omega-3 fatty acids which help lower triglycerides (blood fat),  decrease stiffness and joint pain, improve mood, and may help prevent Alzheimer disease and dementia.

kimHMeet Kim! She’s an ICU nurse on leave while she cares for her 2 little monsters!

Kim prefers HIIT workouts and training outdoors. She says, “I have a few (exercise) apps on my phone to help and often do a park workout while letting the toddler run around! I look really out-of-place and notice other moms talking about me sometimes, but setting a healthy example and fitting in workouts where I can (while spending as much time with my kids as I can) mean more to me than people’s judgment.”

She says, “my  favorite natural beauty product is organic Argan oil. I use it on my face and all  over my skin really, and it leaves it glowing. I also try to drink a gallon of water or more a day to stay hydrated not only for breastfeeding, but to keep my body healthy. It makes my skin glow, my lips look fuller, my eyes clearer and brighter. I can’t say enough great things about drinking enough water!”

Kim finds eating healthy tricky because of her schedule. She says,”I try to stock the fridge with fresh fruit and love to make egg muffins (eggs baked in a muffin tin with different fillers; sun-dried tomatoes, spinach, broccoli, cheese etc.)”

Fact: Eggs are a popular source of protein, but what’s not so well-known is that the yolk is full of omega-3 fats and Vitamin E which helps your immune system, skin, and eyes. Studies of pasture-raised eggs to that of caged-hen eggs have shown to have 200% more Vitamin E.

MJMeet MJ! She’s a Dental hyGenius!

MJ loves to try new things! She says, ‘I like to be challenged mentally and physically! I believe we are naturally competitive whether it’s between your peers or with yourself.

I’m currently obsessed with pole fitness and was recently introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Mixing the art of pole and mental strategy of BJJ makes me feel powerful, sexy, and confident.”

Fact: Martial arts like Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, and Kung Fu to name a few are a great way to stay fit. They improve balance, coordination, agility, endurance, and functional strength.

A little makeup makes MJ feel beautiful. She says, “When in doubt, I turn to mascara, blush, brows, and lipstick to make me feel beautiful.  I also like to dance around in my underwear — it makes me appreciate my body.”

MJ’s drinks C4 for her pre-workout drink. She says, “It gets the job done!”

sashaMeet Sasha! She’s a mother, wife, chef, and dragon slayer!

Her favorite workout method is to combine a few formats. She says, “I like to mix up aerobic activity, weight lifting, and exercises using my own body weight. I do love to move fast, to sweat, and push it to the max. I love to see my biceps pop, I love how the body looks right after a workout.

Sorry yoga, one day I will grow up to be more patient and I am sure I will enjoy sun salutations as well. A simple walk in the early morning with some upbeat music makes me very happy and ready for a long day too!”

Sasha’s favorite healthy beauty habit is drinking water. She says, “It feels as if whatever happens to our bodies — its health and well-being — it all depends on WATER. It helps to clean our bodies from toxins which we are loading on every day and night, it hydrates our every cell, it helps us heal faster during colds, food poisoning and so on.

Another natural beauty I currently adore is grapefruit. Besides providing all the fabulous vitamins it keeps our smiles white and gorgeous.” 😀

Fact: All the food you eat, including the tea, juice, and coffee you drink contribute to your daily water consumption. However, when you have a choice to hydrate — water is the supreme choice because it has no sugar! Stay hydrated to support body functions, mental clarity, and clear skin.

Sasha enjoys protein shakes after her workout. She says, “I always go for chocolate whey protein shake. Mine does not have much sugar, but tastes sooo good and it “feeds” and helps to heal my muscles. I like to add some blueberries, flax-seed and bee pollen to it.”

Meet Tracie! She’s an aspiring ‘warrior priestess’! She’s up for anything that makes her feel powerful and strong!

She says, “My favorite exercise right now is a power clean.  It involves precision, strength, and every single muscle in your body, including your mind.”

She says, “my favorite natural beauty product is Lavender Witch Hazel.  It’s a refreshing face toner — sweeps away dirt and oil and doesn’t dry out your face!”

Tracie’s favorite ‘health food’ is a toss up between smoked oysters and sardines. She says, “They are a super power packed protein that makes salad taste amazing!!”

Fact: Bone density decreases as you age, maintain bone health with weight training, walking, and foods like sardines. Sardines are a healthy source of good fats, minerals, calcium, and one of the few foods that provide Vitamin D helping you have stronger bones.

Support your healthy habits by hanging out with like-minded people. Create a sisterhood from the women around you to share your health, fitness, and beauty ideas. Support each other — that’s what friends are for! (Girl power!)

I am inspired daily by the company of women I keep. The health & fitness female sisterhood is powerful. They walk the talk and that is fierce!

I polled my amazing friends. I asked them to share their secrets in what they did to stay  healthy, fit, and feeling beautiful and they came back with some nuggets!

Here is what I asked them…

1. What is your favorite workout method or exercise?  And why?

2. What is your favorite natural beauty product or thing you do that makes you feel beautiful?

3. What is your favorite health food/drink or pre-post workout — whatever you’re crazy about right now — and why?

aliciaSMeet Alicia Sierra! She’s a women’s Empowerment Coach and Herbalist. Find her at www.WombGoddess.com

She says, “my favorite workout is belly-dancing and the bar method workout. I love how good my body feels when I dance. It feels like I am stretching and toning my hips and makes me feel really connected to my body.

I swear, I feel that as women our bodies are meant to move in feminine snake movements! It is also very nourishing to our wombs as it increases circulation and massages our internal organs.”

Alicia says, “my favorite natural beauty product is a mask that I make using bentonite clay, water, honey and a drop of rose geranium essential oil. My skin feels really clean and soft. I feel like my skin glows after I rinse off the mask and it smells amazing!”

She says, “my favorite health food drink are Nettle infusions. I take an ounce of dried herb and put it in a 1 quart mason jar, pour boiling water in it and let it steep overnight. I drink a cup 1st thing in the morning and sip the rest throughout the day. It is full of vitamins and minerals. It is nature’s multivitamin all in one herb. It keeps me energized and makes my skin look amazing!”

angelicaMMeet Angelica Minerva! She’s a Fitness Director, yoga,  Pilates, and TRX teacher. Find her @angelica_minerva

Angelica says, “my favorite workouts are: heavy weights, yoga (not Bikram!), calisthenics, and TRX.  Being able to control the body in fun ways against gravity and lifting heavy at a consistent tempo becomes a cardio challenge as well.”

Angelica has tons of healthy habits that support her feeling beautiful – here are some:

  • Coconut oil (or any natural, plant/nut based oil) for skin and hair
  • Turmeric for shakes and as a mask — mix with yogurt for oily skin, mix with honey for dry skin
  • clayIndian Healing Clay as a cleanser, mask, and pimple control
  • Apple cider vinegar for hair and skin
  • And her favorite multipurpose cream is Weleda’s plant food good for face, body and even hair!

Angelica says, “I like protein shakes or smoothies with lots of kefir, turmeric, hemp seeds, cinnamon, veggies, silica, raw green powder & glutamine. For pre-workout I love liquid b-complex!”

Her favorite way to exercise is yoga. She says, “I naturally gravitate toward exercises that rejuvenate and replenish energy and mindfulness simultaneously, so yoga for sure. It’s restorative, meditative and boundary-stretching all at once. Having an almost three year old keeps me motivated! And, yoga is one of those humbling practices that always reminds the novice in us to learn something new!”

Christine enjoys natural beauty care. She says, “essential oil facials, earthy, food-based body scrubs and then rehydrating with warming and muscle soothing oils like avocado, arnica, macadamia nut and argan. Makes me feel so relaxed, bright, and alive!”

Christine shares one of her delectable body scrubs. She says, “this one is great for post-workout, sport muscle mending, and is capillary soothing!”scrub

  • 1/4-1/2 cup coarsely ground coffee
  • 1/4 cup coconut sugar
  • 1/2 tbs arnica oil
  • 1/2 tbs almond oil

Mix well with a fork. If too pasty add more coffee. Final tip — oil up with arnica oil after using this scrub in the shower!

Christine is a health-drink mixologist! She says, “this is a tough question because you know me, I’m constantly creating new health drinks and food therapy recipes. I love coconut everything, I can just eat strip after strip! A favorite is to thinly slice coconut flesh and top with vanilla bean “caviar” — awesome mood food!

A post-workout drink is usually a cucumber or citrus zest infused water with easy to digest veggie protein. But, I have a REALLY big appetite, so I eat all day long. I eat a huge variety of seasonal foods, spices and herbs to stay satisfied. Some of my current favorite foods and ingredients are citrus blossom, all {sustainable} seafood and fish, coconut everything, hemp, cacao, coriander, turmeric, lemongrass, basil, cilantro, cherimoya and daikon. The list goes on!”

Meet Cicely Carew! She’s a Personal Trainer, Fitness Nutritionist, yoga teacher, and artist. Find her at Grounded Powerhouse.

Cicely says, “I love combining 15-30 minutes of interval spinning followed by 1hr of yoga, Pilates or functional training. I like it because it gives me a well-rounded workout for the time I have.”

Cicely is really into coconut oil. She says, “I recently began oil pulling and the benefits are noticeable. Other than my teeth and gums feeling cleaner, my skin tone has improved, my mood become more balanced (postpartum hormones were out of control) and my stomach ailments have improved.”

Cicely prefers to workout in the morning. She says, “when I wake up I prepare hot water with lemon, turmeric and honey. I generally drink this en route to any workout session.  I get a refreshing burst of energy and get on with my workout.

I’m still breastfeeding so I have to be conscious of my caffeine intake so a green smoothie with Macha is off the menu for now. That is another goodie for the future. My post-workout drink is water with a lemon — clean, simple and it replenishes electrolytes.”

Erika’s favorite workouts are Pilates and Yoga. She says, “I’m all about lengthening the body, and building strength and flexibility simultaneously. These practices help me stay grounded, focused mentally, and help me manage any stress that may be going on. It’s all about balance!”

She says, “my favorite natural beauty product is Raw Argan Oil. It’s luxurious and nourishing and it can go everywhere — hair, skin, nails and keeps it all supple, moisturized, and dewy.”

Erika says, “the thing that makes me feel the most beautiful is meditating. It’s like supercharging my life force, getting rid of excessive thinking, and glowing from the soul out. Also, you can’t forget a good night sleep for restoration!”

Erika loves raw cacao! She says, “first thing in the morning, I mix it with Maca powder to give me focus, a boost in energy, hormonal balance, and a blissful feeling all day.”

Her favorite exercise method is CrossFit. She says, “I love it because it’s “evidence-based fitness” meaning, it’s measurable, observable and repeatable data. I love numbers and more importantly, I love seeing numbers change over time. This is also why I record and communicate numbers to my clients of the exercises they perform. They don’t keep track of workouts like I do, but when they go to workout without me, they know which weights to use.”

Esterina likes it simple when it comes to beauty. She says, “I could own all the beauty products in the world, but what makes me feel beautiful is a good night sleep, a clean and moisturized face, and regular haircuts! Then layered on top of that is just the right amount of makeup to continue that fresh look (I have red undertones, so making that even is a major bonus), a little blush, mascara and some tinted chapstick!”

Esterina enjoys preparing healthy meals. She says, “I spend a lot of time thinking about food, prepping meals, cooking, reading recipes, logging my food and eating! I care a lot about what I put in my body and also my loved ones. In general, I follow a paleo structured meal plan with cheat meals planed once or twice a week.

My current favorite post workout protein shake is Progenex Recovery Chocolate Peanut Butter Smash! The carb to protein ratio helps with muscle repair and recovery. My favorite workout is walking because I can do it anywhere, anytime, it’s easy on the body, and I spend time with my dogs in nature. I walk about an hour each day.

I do Pilates & body-weight conditioning 2x a week, and heavier weight training 1-2x a week, but leisurely walking is the backbone of my healthy lifestyle. It’s also part of my mindful practice — a walk in nature can bring back the inner-peace our spirit longs for.

My favorite natural beauty product is Tarte’s Lights, Camera, Flashes mascara because it’s waterproof, cruelty free, and free of Parabens, Sulfates, Phthalates, synthetic fragrances, synthetic dyes, and synthetic fragrance. Something I do that makes me feel beautiful is to say nice things to myself — positive affirmations and things to be thankful for — before I go to sleep. Mainly, decreased stress, improved sleep, and the manifestation of more good things in my life! 😉

My favorite health drink is kombucha. I drink a few sips throughout the day and right before bed. It helps me have a healthy gut which promotes good digestion, immunity, and clear skin.

Her favorite workouts are spin and Pilates. For example when practicing yoga I am constantly in exploration of body alignment towards stretching and releasing, in doing Pilates I am strengthening my entire core body, and doing HIIT I’m building my total body strength and endurance.”

Like the conscious girly-girl I am, I love natural beauty products — it’s the only way to go!

I came across Kath Rivera’s blog when I was searching for natural ways to whiten my sun spots. (I’ve used lemon wedges with no success — boo!)

She’s a self-professed organic junkie and when I checked out her blog she had a plethora of product reviews on everything from beauty products to health supplements so I reached out to her!

Kath  is founder of KathRivera.com a popular beauty, fashion, and lifestyle blog for the Philippines. She writes about the latest trends, product launches, and reviews a ton of beauty and health related products. She’s partnered with GNC, Natura Organics, and IWhite Korea.

1. What’s your number one organic beauty product that you can’t live without?

Interview with Alicia Sierra, Womb Goddess on Femininity, Sensuality, and Ageless Living

An ageless lifestyle is more importantly about feeling good from the inside out.

Aside from having outstanding general health, it also means having a healthy body image — a loving and respectful connection between the mind, body, and spirit. Among the different ideas that comes to mind when one thinks of a woman’s’ body image is the desire to honor our femininity and sense of sensuality.

I am ecstatic to bring to you my latest ageless advocate interview with Alicia Sierra, a self proclaimed  womb goddess! She is here to share her valuable insight on revering our femininity, nurturing our sensuality, and how it all contributes to an ageless lifestyle.

Alicia Sierra is the founder of  wombgoddess.com.  The website is dedicated to empowering and teaching women how to connect to their womb wisdom by using meditation, herbs, movement, journaling, and rituals. She currently hosts workshops for women in Berkeley, California.

Alicia has been a massage therapist for almost 20 years and studied herbs and holistic healing for the last 10. Her passions include women’s spirituality, sacred sexuality, and reproductive health. Alicia guides women on their journey to reclaiming their divine feminine powers and living a fully succulent life.

In her own words here is what Alicia has to say…

1. What’s the biggest tip you can tell our readers on how to be better connected to their femininity and sensuality?

I find that doing something pleasurable for yourself everyday helps women connect to their femininity. For example taking a nice warm bath with essential oils, reading a good book, dancing etc. The  point is to take a moment for yourself and do something just for you!

2. What is a womb goddess and how did you become one?

I have always been fascinated by a woman’s ability to be fertile and give birth not only humans but to ideas and projects.  Our wombs are our center of creation. When we take care of ourselves and nurture and heal the energy that may be stuck there I notice that we become fully empowered.

I feel that as women we underestimate our power to create so I define a womb goddess as a woman who is re-claiming her power as a divine feminine being.  She understands that she plays a major role in creating her life.

By understanding this a woman can now choose to design her dream life full of health. joy and passion. I became a womb goddess when I began to take the time to release energy that I felt was stuck in my womb and to listen to my intuition which I believe is also located in that area.

3. Why is it important to care and nurture this part of us — our womb and our feminine essence?

I think it is very important to care and nurture our wombs. So much happens in this area. As women this is one of the main areas that we hold emotions. When we take care of our wombs and release the emotions and energy that no longer serves us, we become more vibrant and radiant.

There are particular exercises that when done consistently can help women release  blocks in this area,  improve health, and manifest a more fruitful existence.  The Chinese have known this for years and wrote some of the first manuals on womb wellness.

4. Why as women should we continue to cultivate our sensuality?

I believe that as women we must cultivate our sensuality. We live in a male dominated society and in order to succeed we’ve had to take on the masculine way of doing things which is wrecking havoc on our bodies.

Our feminine bodies were not designed to sit in an office for 8-12 hrs a day and go home to cook and take care of our families. It is too much!

We try to do it all so that we feel that we are living a full life and often the opposite happens. We just feel to tired to enjoy life. That is not to say that we can’t do those things it is just that there are consequences.

Women feel that they have to sacrifice and do so at their own expense. We are taught to put ourselves last and we suffer for it. By tapping into our sensuality we begin to feel more alive, vibrant, juicy.

We learn that when we put ourselves first and take time for pleasure everything in our lives begin to fall into place. We become happier and more magnetic. As we radiate happiness the people around us become happier as well. We become contagious.

5. What do you do to respect your femininity, sensuality, and live an ageless lifestyle?

I make sure to take time out for myself and do some womb yoga. The movements are designed to nourish your reproductive organs. I also do some taoist breathing exercises to energize my womb and I feel the effects of that right away. It is one of the fastest ways to feel sensual and alive. I also do my  best to eat well. I take herbal infusions and that helps keep me ageless and vibrant.

6. What is on the horizon for you?

Interview with Christine Dionese, Integrative Health Specialist About Ageless Living and More!

Christine Dionese is an integrative healthcare specialist, medical journalist, and food writer. Her research, writing, speaking and consulting highlights how endocrine and immune wellness are shaped by the ever-changing environment.

To balance this more serious side of her work, Christine loves to concoct, write about, and connect people with food. Christine is passionate about helping people become their own advocates for change and thinks everyone has a shot at designing the lifestyle they envision.

In her own words, Christine shares her thoughts on integrative health and ageless living!

1. What’s the biggest tip you can tell the readers about how to practice integrative health?

Breathe and relax. That’s my biggest tip.

Food, supplements, exercise- they’re essential components of integrative wellness, yet, if you forget to breathe, to unwind, to meditate and relax, you’ll miss the moment. So, if you’re reading this right now, stop doing whatever else you’re doing and kick back, put your feet up, take a deep breathe. After all, tissues need constant oxygenation to thrive!

2. Tell us the story of how you came to be an integrative healthcare specialist?

It all happened very naturally. I couldn’t quite decide on specializing in one area- my background was in psychology, philosophy and world religion. I’d always wanted to practice holistic medicine, but after working with naturopaths, finishing grad school studying Chinese medicine and acupuncture, studying environmental and functional medicine and then getting into private practice, it just happened- it all came together.

I started accepting patients into my practice and of course, one size never fit all and I just naturally became an integrative health specialist by helping individuals invest in their personal wellness. I’m so thankful it happened this way- it’s really opened my eyes to how important it is to embrace all aspects of well-being.

3. When most people have a health concern, they look for quick-fixes or just focus on the physical components, can you explain why looking at the whole body — a holistic approach — is more ideal and why it will bring about long-lasting change and wellness.

Most people are surprised to learn that the skin is our largest organ- and the skin tells no lies- eventually it has no choice but to tell the truth of what’s been going on beneath it physiologically.

Everything we’re exposed to- food, drugs, supplements, our relationships, emotional responses, pollution- everything- is reflected by our largest organ. So, if we’re experiencing a weight issue for example and we temporarily “fix” it with weight loss pills without discovering first that we may actually be experiencing say, a thyroid concern, this taxes the physical body and brings stress to the mind.

It can cause us to produce un-necessary levels of stress hormones and therefore inflammation. And, you guessed it, this can signal an artificial fluctuation of other hormones that would otherwise help with anti-aging aspects such as soothing blood vessels, reducing blood pressure and balancing the sympathetic with the parasympathetic nervous system.

4. How can practicing integrative health — holistic living — promote ageless living?

Practicing integrative health is a lifestyle, one that embraces all aspects of health. No piece is more important than the other, but rather learning how to balance each one. And, one of those oft forgotten pieces is fun- taking time to detach from work to make time for ourselves. Maybe you spend that time taking a hike with your kids, or an entire day at the spa, whatever helps keep you present in the moment, having fun.

5. Some of the main reasons people are interested in ageless living is so that one, they can look ageless, two, be healthy and disease free, and three, be energetic and vibrant. Will you tell us, what do you do to look, feel, and be your best?

It probably comes as no surprise that I meditate. I take time to relax and breathe. This keeps the relationship between the parasympathetic and sympathetic (fight or flight) nervous system happy. I love to practice yoga- I’m still a total novice, but it helps me feel free from stress while building energy for later.

While I’m not vegetarian or vegan, my diet is primarily plant based and full of essential fats. The extended growing season in California makes it easy to create super-food juices and meals every day.

My work doubles as my hobby and passion, but I definitely take time to myself to rejuvenate with massage, acupuncture and chiropractic wellness. For personal care, I only use products the Environmental Working Group has rated free from carcinogens and endocrine disruptors. I also just started making my own sunscreen, free from chemicals.

6. Finally, is there anything you would like to share with the readers about integrative health, ageless living, or anything new on the horizon for you?

Ageless living is more about attitude and outlook than anything else. How we perceive our wellness is so important. And, the wonderful thing about integrative health and wellness is that we can always add and learn more to how we care for ourselves.

What’s new? For people who want to extend health through food, but the kitchen isn’t their favorite place, I’m really excited that my new food therapy business will be launching soon.

Interview w/ Feminine Embodiment Lifestyle Coach, Ali Schueler on Feminine Power and Ageless Living

Recently, I had the opportunity to talk with Ali Schueler.

Ali is a Feminine Embodiment  Lifestyle Coach. She is also the blogger for GaiaScouts.com.

I came to know Ali and her blog Gaia Scouts when I was searching for women who were making a difference in the lives of other women.

Gaia Scouts is about empowerment and the embodiment of what it means to be a woman.

In one of her latest posts, Ali speaks about being the queen of your life which really resonated with me because my motto has always been,

“I’m the protagonist in my life movie; I am the driving force that makes things happen. I wear the heels, I get the guy, and I save the day!”

And though I don’t say the word queen- I think the theme is the same. Which is, I am the boss of me!

Recently I had the privilege to talk with Katrina Mayer. Katrina is an author and motivational speaker who speaks about health, happiness, and longevity.

Her first book, The Mustard Seed Way is a top seller in Amazon with reviews like, “The mustard seed way is the everyday way.”

Her second book called, Wholarian Vision has garnered her a Facebook following of over 33,000 followers.

I learned about Katrina when I was researching who were the top influencers out there in the field of ageless living.

More importantly, who was doing it in a holistic and natural way that incorporated spirituality. Because at Inspire Youthful, we believe health, happiness, and an ageless lifestyle begins with a nurtured spirit.
